The local area

Community
Hartrigg Oaks is a retirement community for people over 60 to live full and independent lives. Residential care is available if and when needed, but most residents come to Hartrigg Oaks to enjoy the independence and choice offered by life in our 152 bungalows within 21 acres of attractive grounds, and easy access to York and beyond.
Bungalows at Hartrigg Oaks
We have 152 spacious bungalows spread over our 21-acre site.
There are four different designs of bungalow, the Hart and the Hart Plus (for couples) and the Rigg and the Rigg Plus for (single residents). “Plus” bungalows have a spacious upstairs room. Every bungalow has its own small garden with a very useful shed for outdoor furniture and tools.
All our bungalows have a deceptively large living-room with an adjoining kitchen.
- The Hart (and Hart Plus) bungalows have two other good-sized rooms downstairs, one of which is usually used as the main bedroom, and the other often as a second bedroom or dining room or study.
- The Hart (and Hart Plus) bungalows have a bathroom and a shower room.
- The Rigg (and Rigg Plus) bungalows are smaller. Downstairs, in addition to the living room and kitchen, they have a generously-sized room which is usually used as a bedroom, and also a good-sized bathroom.
- The “Plus” bungalows are bigger, as they have attractive rooms upstairs with sloping walls and skylights. These rooms can be used for a number of activities, ranging from another bedroom, with ensuite WC and basin, to a study, an art studio and lots more.
Our homes are built to a national standard called Lifetime Homes. This means they are wheelchair accessible throughout and can easily be fitted with aids and adaptations.

Continuing Care is what we call Hartrigg Oaks’ unique care model.
Choosing Continuing Care means that when you join us, the cost of your bungalow will also cover your future accommodation at our resident care facility, The Oaks. This could be on a short-term or permanent basis, depending on your needs at that time.
Continuing Care is an optional feature of living at Hartrigg Oaks that’s chosen by 87% of our community, who value flexibility and peace of mind it brings them.
