Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) has been developing a proposal for building 8 new and affordable homes on land adjacent to Sturdee Grove and Foss Way in Heworth.

These proposals will be shared with residents, the local community and key stakeholders for feedback prior to applying for planning permission.

On Thursday at the Executive Member Meeting for Housing and Safer Neighbourhoods, Councillor Denise Craghill on behalf of City of York Council supported our proposal to purchase the required plot of land adjacent to Sturdee Grove and Foss Way to complete the development site.

Chris Simpson, Executive Director, Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust said: “I am delighted that the City of York Council has accepted our proposal to purchase a plot of land adjacent to Sturdee Grove and Foss Way. Over the coming months, Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust will be working with residents and the local community to develop plans for building 8 much needed affordable homes on this site. This forms part of JRHT’s commitment to deliver 1,000 new affordable homes over ten years which will help address the affordability crisis locally.”

Cllr Denise Craghill, Executive Member for Housing and Safer Neighbourhoods at City of York Council, said: “I’m delighted to work with other social landlords to improve and increase the supply of high quality affordable housing in tandem with our Housing Delivery Programme. The eight homes proposed on this land will benefit both residents on the housing waiting list through social rent, and those seeking to buy a first home through lower cost shared ownership. They will also be more affordable to live in with lower fuel bills and low carbon emissions in keeping with our zero carbon ambitions.”
