Visit from Ideal Heating Energy Van

Colleagues recently had the opportunity to engage with the Ideal Heating Energy van, which showcased a Logic Air Source Heat Pump.

The visit provided both technical and resident facing teams with hands-on experience and the chance to gain insights into the practical and technical aspects of operating an Air Source Heat Pump.

What is an Air Source Heat Pump

An Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) is a highly efficient low-carbon heating system that extracts heat from the outside air, even at low temperatures, and uses it to heat homes and water. It works by transferring heat via a refrigerant cycle and requires electricity to run.  For every unit of electricity used, it can generate multiple units of heat, making it an energy efficient option.

When paired with renewable energy, ASHPs can significantly reduce carbon emissions compared with traditional heat systems like gas boilers.

Hands on experience

Colleagues had the chance to ask questions and discuss which homes would be most suitable for low-carbon heating solutions. The sessions helped build knowledge and understanding, with colleagues viewing the heat pump and heating cylinder up close.

Daniel Curran, Key Accounts Executive from Ideal Heating said "Ideal Heating has supplied heating products to the Social Housing sector for over 100 years. We developed the Logic Air, an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP), alongside a pre-plumbed hot water cylinder and user-friendly controller. Presenting this package to JRHT employees offered valuable insights into tenant expectations and the challenges housing officers may face. Feedback highlighted the quality of our products, our aftercare service, and our commitment to training and support for new-build designs.”

Feedback from colleagues

“The Ideal demonstration van provided an opportunity for us to see an air source heat pump and the Ideal experts provided us with their in-depth knowledge to help us understand the benefits of the use of these in residential homes. It was beneficial to listen to the Ideal experts, it was also great to have the opportunity to engage and learn more about air source heat pumps.”, Katie Dickinson, Compliance and Assets Administrator

"Thank you for arranging this visit—it was very educational. The experts answered all my questions and even provided additional information when they learned about my academic interest. Seeing actual-size models of the boilers sparked further discussions and made their explanations easy to visualise. Overall, it was a great experience!” Sepi Yousefali, Development Liaison Manager

Looking ahead

This visit marks the beginning of an exciting journey to explore low carbon heating solutions for future residents’ homes. We aim to extent the opportunity to residents soon, providing further insights into the benefits of Air Source Heat Pumps and their role in creating sustainable living environments.

“The Ideal Heating Energy Van was a great opportunity to view an Air Source Heat Pump and ask questions about the system and its operation.  We are keen to ensure our homes are comfortable, healthy and affordable to heat.  We will work with residents to support them to move to low-carbon heating solutions that are energy efficient whilst ensuring affordable fuel bills.”  Amy Somerville, Retrofit Programme Manager
