Connor Lambert, Digital Inclusion and Accessibility Officer, recently visited Hartfields, our vibrant retirement village in Hartlepool, to upgrade the IT suite and provide digital support for residents.
IT upgrade and one to one digital support
During the visit, Connor worked with Charlotte Hope, the General Manager of Hartfields to replace outdated PCs in the IT suite, which had become slower and difficult to use. New computers were installed, making it easier for residents to access online services and explore the digital world.
After the upgrade was completed, a drop-in service was held, offering residents one to one support. This gave residents the chance to ask questions, receive help with specific queries, and try out the new computers.
Residents were also introduced to Learn My Way, a free online portal filled with tutorials and courses to help users make the most of the internet.
To sign up for Learn My Way, follow these steps:
- Visit the website - Learn My Way and select register, when prompted click “Being supported by an online centre”
- Enter the code, 8011578, when prompted to access all free learning materials.
IT suite at Hartfields
The IT suite is open to all residents living at Hartfields and it is completely free to use. It is located on the second floor of Hartfields Manor.
It’s a perfect safe for:
- Accessing online services like your local GP or library
- Keeping up to date by reading the latest news or checking local events.
- Building digital confidence by browsing the internet and discovering services that can improve your daily life.
In addition, to the new computers, there is a noticeboard in the IT suite with helpful tips, guidance and resources to support residents on their digital journey.
If you are a resident living in Hartfields and need extra help, Get Online Champion Jeffrey Hall is available to help. Speak to reception and they will connect you with Jeff and to help solve any queries.
Get Online Week
The IT suite was completed in time for Get Online Week, a national campaign organised by the Good Things Foundation from Monday 14 October 2024 to Sunday 20 October. This initiative encourages people to get online and try something new.
If you are not a frequent internet user, why not start with a simple challenge? Use your smartphone, tablet or laptop to look up the nearest library, shop or a place of interest, and check their opening hours. It’s a quick and easy way to begin your digital journey.
