The new community group ‘Mindfulness Rocks York meets weekly and focuses on promoting mindfulness and well-being within the community.

Set up by resident Ali Huitt, the group is driven by a commitment to community spirit and the importance of mental well-being.

Ali Huitt expressed her motivation, saying, "I firmly believe in giving back to my community. In New Earswick, community spirit is ingrained in its history."

The group's activities include various arts and crafts sessions, along with presentations from guest speakers on topics such as reflexology hand massages, meditation with essential oils, and the healing benefits of crystals and minerals.

Currently, the group is collaborating with York Learning VR mindfulness. There are also plans to do nature reserve walks which will feature mindfulness photography in the future.

Ali said “Being a Health Champion has allowed me to give back to my local community and provide people with a great learning experience of self-care and mindfulness in a safe kind environment. We are a friendly group and would love new members to join us.”

Viv Fleming, Community Development Officer alongside colleague Emma Green have been supporting Ali to set up and run the group.

Viv said “I first met Ali at the Open House. It has been an absolute pleasure to support Ali’s journey from the initial idea to this wonderful group that has such a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing.  We are extremely grateful to Ali for her determination, time, and commitment. It’s also great to witness the Discovery Room – a new community space at the Folk Hall – being used and appreciated by people who live in the neighbourhood.”
