Small changes can lead to big savings. With energy prices still high, making small adjustments can reduce costs whilst keeping your home warm and comfortable.

Here are some quick tips to help reduce your energy use while staying comfortable:

Heating

  • Turn your thermostat down by 1°C to save up to 10% on heating bills.
  • Use radiator foil behind radiators on external walls to reflect heat into the room.
  • Close curtains & blinds at night to keep the heat in making sure curtains are tucked behind the radiators if sited under a window.

Kitchen

  • Batch cook meals – if the oven is on, cook tomorrow’s meal too.
  • Cook with lids on – this reduces condensation and uses less energy.
  • Use an air fryer or slow cooker instead of the oven as they are more energy efficient and cheaper to run.
  • Only boil the water you need in the kettle – don’t waste energy heating excess water.
  • Pack your freezer tight – for maximum efficiency – freezer full and fridge three quarters.

Electricity Saving Tips

  • Turn off devices on standby – phone chargers, TVs, and consoles still use energy.
  • Switch to LED bulbs – they use 75% less energy and last longer.
  • Turn off lights, tablets, computers, and appliances when not in use – it still uses energy when it is on standby mode.

Prevent Condensation and Mould

  • Take shorter showers – saves water & energy.
  • Open windows for 10 minutes daily – will let fresh air in and stop damp building up.
  • Dry clothes outside or in a bathroom with the window open and the door closed to avoid damp and mould.
