We believe that the best homes are built not just for residents, but with them.
That is why our Accessibility in Design (AiD) group plays an essential role in shaping the future of accessible housing. Formed of residents with lived experience of disability, or who support someone who does, the group provides crucial insight that ensures our new homes are truly inclusive and future ready.
From reviewing blueprints for new developments to offering practical, real-world insights - such as room layouts, doorway positioning, driveway design, and potential future adaptations—the AiD group helps ensure our "lifetime homes" are not only accessible in theory but genuinely work for the people who live in them.
“My disability exists not because I use a wheelchair, but because the broader environment isn’t accessible.” – Stella Young, Resident
This quote perfectly sums up the importance of inclusive design. Whether it is cooking a meal, moving freely around your home, or simply parking a WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle), accessibility cannot be an afterthought.
Thanks to the thoughtful contributions of our AiD group, these important conversations are shaping the very foundations of how we design future homes.
