We are delighted to announce that we have successfully secured over £250,000 of additional funding to build more new and affordable homes in York.

The funding has been awarded by the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority, who in turn, obtained support from the government’s Brownfield Homes Fund.

The primary objective of the government's Brownfield Housing Fund is to aid housing associations, local authorities, and housing developers in creating new residential spaces on previously developed land. This initiative aligns with the broader national goal of addressing the pressing housing shortage.

Given the competitive nature of funding programmes and the stringent timelines for applications in 2023, Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) strategically submitted proposals for two prospective sites – Sturdee Grove in Heworth and Hawthorn Terrace South in New Earswick. Both sites have been awarded funding on the condition that planning permission is granted by the City of York Council.

David Boyes- Watson, Deputy Director, Development & Asset Management from JRHT said “We are delighted to have secured this funding which means JRHT can provide more much needed high quality and affordable homes in York. We are looking forward to continuing to work with the City of York Council, stakeholders, residents, and the community to continue to build more much-needed homes.”
