Residents and community groups in Derwenthorpe and the surrounding area have a fantastic opportunity to bring their ideas to life, thanks to the Derwenthorpe Community Fund. The fund, managed by Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT), is dedicated to supporting initiatives that enhance community life, promote social connections, and make Derwenthorpe a great place to live. 

Applications are now open for the next round of funding 

The fund is inviting applications for its next round of funding, giving local groups, individuals, and organisations the opportunity to secure financial support for projects that benefit the local community. 

Next application deadline: 09 April 2025  

What can be funded? 

The fund supports a wide range of projects, including: 

  • Youth activities and engagement projects 
  • Community-led events and social initiatives 
  • Education and learning opportunities for adults and children 
  • Enhancements to open spaces and recreational areas 
  • Projects that strengthen local partnerships 

Who can apply?  

The fund is open to residents, community groups, and organisations based in Derwenthorpe, Osbaldwick, Tang Hall, and nearby areas (Hull Road, Melrosegate including Rawdon Avenue and Harrington Avenue, Fourth Avenue, and Bad Bargain Lane) looking to make a positive impact in the local community. 

How the fund is making a difference 

Previous funding rounds have already supported some fantastic community projects. Here are just a few: 

  • Derwenthorpe Nature Group to offer workshops on nature-based skills    
  • Osbaldwick Primary School to improve its wildlife area  
  • Storytime sessions for under 5s with additional needs at Tang Hall Explore  
  • A weekly Breakfast Club at Tang Hall Community Centre.
